Aluminium boride chemical Formula is ALB2. Aluminum boride can also be called aluminium diboride. it is a binary complex formed by aluminum elements and boron. Under normal temperatures and pressure, Aluminium Boride appears as a solid. Heat causes it to lose its glossy surface. It is stable when heated in dilute cold acid, but decomposes at high temperatures in hydrochloric or nitric acid.
AlB2 aluminum boride is one of a pair of compounds containing aluminum and boron. AlB12 is the other. They are both commonly known as aluminum boreide. AlB12 is an opaque monoclinic crystal that has a specific gravity (at 18degC) of 2.55. It does not disperse water. The hexagonal base is parallel to AlB2’s single crystal.

The aluminum boride structure resembles that of graphite. It is quite similar to magnesium diboride in that there are Al atoms located between B and B. The AlB2 monocrystalline crystal shows metal conductivity on an axis parallel to a hexagonal plane.

AlB2 gives a solution with a reducing agent that is soluble only in dilute hydrochloric acids. The solution can also contain HB(OH). It does not dissolve in sulfuric acids but it can be dissolved by nitric acid. AlB2 breaks down into AlB12 at temperatures above 920°C.

AlB2 cannot decompose sulfuric dilute acid, but can in nitric. AlB2 breaks down to AlB12 over 920.
