Cadmium sulfide powder:
Cadmium sulfide or Cadmium oxide is a substance that is inorganic. Cadmiumsulfide Chemical Formula is CdS. The two crystals are a-form and b form. A-form is a powdery yellow color, while b is a powdery orange-red. It is slightly soluble. In water, it is soluble. Ammonia, however, has a slight soluble. The yellow solid Cadmium sulfide comes from a cadmium sulfide. It occurs in nature in two different forms, clinopyroxene or leucite. But it is used more often as a substitute for impurities, in zinc ores with similar structures, such as sphalerite, and wurtzite. This is because it’s a simple compound to separate and purify. Its bright yellow pigment was used in 18th-century yellow paint called Cadmium Yellow.

Like zinc sulfide, cadmium sulfide has two crystal forms. Structures with a hexagonal wurtzite pattern (presented in Greenockite minerals) or cubic zinc mixed patterns (presented in Hawleyite minerals) are both more stable. Cadmium and sulfur have four coordinates in both forms. There is a form that has a NaCl salt structure.

Cadmium-sulfide, a semiconductor with a direct energy gap (2.42 eV), is a direct-bandgap semiconductor. The close proximity of the bandgap of cadmium sulfide to visible light wavelength gives it a colourful appearance.
The hexagonal polymorph is also pyroelectric.
CdS crystals can be used in solid-state Lasers as gain mediums.
CdS may be combined with other layers to form thin films that can be used for some types of solar cell. CdS has also been used as a semiconductor material in the very first thin-film devices (TFT).

Film CdS has been used in transducers that operate at frequencies as high as GHz.

What is Cadmium sulfide CdS powder ?
The sulfide ions in soluble cadmium II salts can be precipitated to produce cadmium Sulfide. This reaction was used for qualitative and quantitative inorganic analysis as well as gravimetric analysis.

Industrial cadmium is leached to cadmium sulfurate by using sulfuric acid. This is then adjusted to pH=3.5 before precipitation with sodium sulfide.

It is common to use a process that involves CdS precipitation, followed by washing the solid precipitates in order to remove the soluble salts of cadmium, calcination to transform them into hexagons, before grinding to create powders. CdSe is produced by combining CdS and CdS, while cadmium selenide is generated during calcination.

Cadmium Sulfide (CdS) Powder:
Cadmium sulfide (also known as cadmium-yellow) is used in paints, enamels, ceramics and plastics.
Nickel yellow is a translucent plastic that can be used for almost all resins. It is important to extend the processing time of a cadmium yellow that contains zinc sulfide. This will help the polyethylene plastic decompose, making it green. It is important to not mix cadmium-yellow with pigments that contain copper or copper salts, as this can lead to the formation of green copper or black copper sulfur. Mixing blue and Cadmium Yellow pigments will produce green.
Cadmium sulfide, a pigment, is widely used due to its excellent thermal stability, weather and light resistance, chemical resistance and high opacity.
The following are other uses of cadmium-sulfide:
Photoresistors
Thin film transistors
Transducers
Solar cells
Electrochemical deposition
Sol-gel techniques
Screen printing.

Storage Conditions of Cadmium Sulfide (CdS) Powder:
Cadmium Sulfide CdS Powder must be stored in a dry and cool room. It should not be exposed to air. CdS powder must also not be exposed to stress.
