What Is Aluminium-Silicon Alloy ? Silicon alloy is made up of aluminum and silicon, and can preserve the exceptional properties of each.
Silicon works well in alloys of metals that are used for casting. It increases fluidity and melt temperature. Also, it reduces shrinkage due to solidification. Silicon is an inexpensive raw material. The density of silicon is 2.34g/cm3, which could be advantageous in helping to reduce the overall weight of your casting parts. It is difficult for silicon to dissolve in aluminum. Therefore, silicon precipitates as almost pure silicon. This makes it more wear-resistant. This material is rich in silicon and aluminum, has an advanced preparation technology, is inexpensive, and is safe for the body.
Si-Al alloy has a density range of 2.4g/cm3 to 2.5g/cm3, while the coefficient of thermal extension (CTE), is anywhere from 7-20ppm/. Si-Al alloy’s thermal expansion coefficient and density decrease with increasing levels of silicon. Si-Al alloy has great properties like good thermal conductivity. Si-Al alloy can be coated with silver, gold, copper or nickel. They are also easy to machine with precision.
A promising material for electronic packaging is silicon-aluminum alloy, particularly in high-tech areas like space technology and electronic portable devices.

What Types of Silicon-Aluminum Alloys is Available?
Four categories can be used to describe the industry’s important silicon-aluminum alloy:
Hypoeutectic silica aluminum alloy. There is a range of silicon contents between 9% to 12%.
Aluminium alloy made of silicon tectic. The silicon content ranges from 11% to 13%.
Hypereutectic silica aluminum alloy. The silicon content ranges from 15% to 20%.
High silica aluminum alloy. More than 22 percent of the silicon content, mostly 25-70%, can reach as high as 80%.

Where is the Aluminium-Silicon Alloy Useful?
This high-silicium-aluminum alloy can be used to make lightweight, wear-resistant materials for any type of transport tool, power machine, or special fasteners.
Due to its light weight and low specific gravity, high silicon-aluminum alloy is often used for cylinder liner, piston and rotor of an automobile engine.
This material can be also used to package high power integrated circuits.

Silumin refers to a range of high-strength aluminum alloys, which are light and strong. They’re based on the aluminum-silicon combination. Aluminum-silicon alloys typically contain 3 to 25% silicon. Al-Si alloys are used primarily for casting. However, they can also be used in powder metalurgical processes and rapid solidification. The silicon in alloys that are used for powder metallurgy, rather than casting, may be higher at up to 50%. Silumin’s high corrosion resistance makes it ideal for use in wet environments.
