This powder is light yellow to white or off-white in color. It becomes darker as it is seen. Zinc sulfuride is stable when dry, however, if left in humid conditions for too long or with moisture it can slowly oxidize and become zinc sulfate.
Zinc sulfuride becomes crystals when it is burned in H2S. The a variant has a hexagonal, colorless color and a melting points of 1.97g/cm3. The b variation has a cubic-colored color with a density 4.102g/cm3. It is then transformed to the a variety at 10.20 degrees Celsius.
Zinc sulfuride is usually obtained through the combination of hydrogen sulfide, zinc salt solution. A small amount of Cu Mn, Ag can be added to the ZnS crystal as an activator. It will emit different colors when illuminated.
Zinc sulfuride is easily dispersed, and does not form agglomerates. You can use it as part of thermosetting and reinforced fibre glass. It also serves to retard flames.
It is often used to make ceramics due to its good sintering qualities. Monodisperse Zinc Sulfide Powder has been shown to have a better sintering result than agglomerate. The particle sizes are also affected by the increase in sintering power.
